Area volunteers will lend a helping hand

Volunteers needed:
The North Nampa Neighborhood Association still needs volunteers to help with Saturday’s cleanup. Anyone interested in helping should meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Lakeview Park near the Air National Guard jet.

Helpers will clean up north Nampa yards Saturday.
NAMPA -- Seventeen homes in north Nampa will get a little sprucing up this weekend, and all Canyon County residents will have the chance to visit the dump for free.
This Saturday the North Nampa Neighborhood Association will hold its annual community cleanup day. Also on Saturday Nampa residents can take advantage of "free dump" days at BFI yard and Pickles Butte Landfill.
Last year, the volunteers cleaned up the yards of seven senior citizens and disabled neighbors in north Nampa. This year, the volunteers will be visiting 17 of their neighbors. "We’re pretty ambitious this year," association President Darin Eisenbarth said.
Eisenbarth said more than 45 volunteers already have signed up to help on Saturday. Volunteers will meet at 10 a.m. at the Air National Guard plane in Lakeview Park. The assignments will be made and volunteers will go out to the different homes.
Eisenbarth said volunteers will remove debris in yards, haul away trash, mow laws, trim bushes and generally clean up yards. The cleanup will last until 4 p.m. on Saturday.
BFI will hold a "free dump day" at its yard, 424 N. Sugar Ave. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday for city residents. BFI will require proof of residency and will only accept refrigerators, freezers or air-conditioners if the compressors have been removed. If the compressors aren’t removed, there is a $30 fee.
Landfill fees will also be waived Saturday for Canyon County citizens at the Pickles Butte Landfill. The landfill will accept household debris that may include up to four tires up to 16.5 inches in size, batteries and appliances if the compressors are removed. The landfill will not accept lead-based paints, bulk liquids, freon, oil and oil filters or waste from commercial businesses.
