Pickles Butte Sanitary Landfill has waived disposal fees that day for county residents leaving off less than 2 tons of waste. The regular fee schedule will apply for amounts that exceed 2 tons. No-fee loads are restricted to no more than one refrigeration appliance and four tires per resident. Acceptable refuse includes batteries, metal, used motor oil, paint, yard trimmings and general household garbage. |
For recycling
purposes it is requested that waste be divided into separate piles for tires
batteries, metal, refrigeration units, and wood wastes. Last year, the landfill accepted more than a million pounds of waste on cleanup day. Also, volunteers are still being accepted for the portion of the cleanup campaign which spruces up the homes of the elderly and disabled. More than 15 residents in need will be assisted with cleanup projects they wouldn’t be able to handle on their own, like "lifting heavy items like old washers and dryers, removing piles of branches, and cutting weeds," according to Martin Bautista, Nampa code enforcement officer. In previous years, Operation Clean Sweep has been confined primarily to the north part of town but this year has been expanded city-wide. Volunteers can expect to work from about 9 a.m. to 2 or 3 p.m., with a free lunch provided. "We can always use more volunteers," said Shirley Dean of the North Nampa Residents Association. "The more we have the sooner we get done." |
