N. Nampa will try ‘zone’ system

Process encourages residents to play active roles in planning
NAMPA -- The passionate and wide-ranging discussion that took place at a meeting of north Nampa residents Tuesday night demonstrated that the North Nampa Residents Association neighborhood representing this part of town is growing stronger.
But not everyone is joining in.
Public interest to this point has been largely confined to those living in a 30 block target area designated for improvements by the North Nampa Urban Renewal Agency. That was the case Tuesday with the nearly 40 residents in attendance.
In an effort to broaden participation among all residents -- not just those in a particular zone -- Sandy Gill of Northwest Regional Facilitators was recruited to present a new concept designed to engage more residents to take active roles in their neighborhoods.
A zone system was tentatively established along the lines of a representative legislature. It is hoped that two or more delegates from each of 16 zones will add ideas and clout to the association.
Crime and safety issues dominated the discussion.
