Ixquick uses several major search engines. If a page earns the top 10 in one search engine, Ixquick gives it a star. The page with the most stars wins. Each domain only shows once. Ixquick is a very good metasearch engine.
Ixquick supports phrases, wildcards, omitted terms, must-have terms, parentheses, and other modifiers such as NEAR, because Ixquick knows which search engines can cope with which complex searches.

Google is one of the world's largest search engines. Google runs on a unique combination of advanced hardware and software. The speed you experience can be attributed in part to the efficiency of our search algorithm and partly to the thousands of low cost PC's we've networked together to create a superfast search engine.

Yahoo actually started as the largest categorized directory. It was later merged with Inktomi, one of the larger search engines. Because of this combination of technologies, Yahoo provides a unique view of the web.

AltaVista Search Engine was the first to devise a way to store every word of every HTML page on the Internet in a fast, searchable index. AltaVista is part of the Overture network.

Excite is one of the most recognized names on the Internet. Excite is another very good metasearch engine, owned by Ask Jeeves.
